Panelists to discuss empowering the community to combat diabetes and obesity
The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its first annual State of Diabetes: Buffalo on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at Seneca One Tower in Buffalo, NY.
“At the American Diabetes Association, we believe empowering our communities is essential in the fight to end diabetes and obesity. This panel event brings together leaders, advocates, and health professionals from Western New York to share knowledge and strategies that can transform lives,” said Jeff Collins, the ADA’s executive director, Upstate New York area. “By working together, we can create healthier environments and inspire individuals to take charge of their health, ultimately reducing the impact of these chronic diseases in our communities.”
In New York, approximately 1,827,200 adults, or 11.7% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 92,000 adults in New York are diagnosed. Additionally, approximately 4,695,100 adults in New York, or 30.1% of the adult population, have obesity. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.
State of Diabetes: Buffalo is made possible by our wonderful sponsors, including The Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine (COEM) at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC).
Thomas J. Quatroche Jr., PhD, ECMC President and CEO said, “At ECMC, we pride ourselves on caring for our community. We understand the significant impact that diabetes and obesity can have on the lives of those we care about, and we are committed to leading efforts that empower individuals to take charge of their health. Together, through events like the State of Diabetes: Buffalo, we can foster a healthier future for everyone.”
Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on empowering the community to combat diabetes and obesity.
Registration is free and open to employers, industry leaders, health care providers, payers, and community experts. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/sodbuffalo. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org.
