Panelists to Discuss Dollars & Diabetes: Counting the Costs
The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its 2024 State of Diabetes: Southern California on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at Aresty Auditorium on the USC Health Science Campus.
“The State of Diabetes event highlights the urgent need to address the overwhelming impact of diabetes, now the most expensive chronic disease in the U.S. As the financial and health burdens escalate, collaboration and innovation are essential. Together, we can drive the changes needed to improve care, prevention, and reduce the toll diabetes takes on our communities” said Anita Dominguez, executive director of the ADA in Southern California.
In California, approximately 3,578,900 adults, or 11.7% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 179,800 adults in California are diagnosed. The State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.
This year’s State of Diabetes: Southern California is sponsored in part by Mannkind Corporation.
Michael Castagna, CEO of MannKind Corporation and chair of the 2024 State of Diabetes Executive Leadership Team, states, “Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without.”
