I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a while ago. I recently had an infection in my right foot. I drove myself to the emergency room. They first tried antibiotics to save the foot. I had to have a bone biopsy. The infection that was taking over my foot was also in the heel. After disease control tried to find out what bacteria it was, I was told I had to have an amputation. I was scared and upset. I went through surgery and then right to rehab. I worked really hard with a walker and physical therapy to learn how to use my left leg. I also gathered as much information as I could to understand diabetes and food going forward. I was put on insulin and other medications. I refuse to let this get me down. I was out of rehab in four days and back home. I am doing everything I can to heal the wound and eat better to go on a trip to Arizona, kayak, and drive again. Always have a positive outlook, and you can overcome even the hardest challenge of your life, like me.
